Find small and independent practices for roll-ups

Every Medicare-enrolled physician by estimated age, specialty and place, with a rating for how likely their practice is to be independent of a hospital system. It's built from public CMS records for independent sponsors and roll-up groups.

Who is near retirement, and who is independent

Two things tell you whether a practice is a roll-up target: how old its physicians are, and whether a hospital system is already behind them. Each row answers both, so one filter gives you a list. These numbers are for the Springfield area.

2,962
physicians within 25 miles of Springfield
740
aged 60 and over, 439 of them 65 and over
34
of those, still billing Medicare with no hospital tie found
31
of those, in billing groups of five or fewer

The market's age curve, against the nation

Each market opens on the share of its physicians in each age band, with the U.S. dashed. If a market's curve sits above the nation's, more of its practices will change hands soon. This is Springfield, drawn from the same rows as the list.

Finding small and independent practices

For independent sponsors

A first list of practices before a broker calls

Start from a specialty and a market, keep the physicians aged 60 and over with no hospital tie, and see who is in a solo or small group before you spend time on outreach.

For roll-up platforms

Add-on targets by specialty and place

Count the older, independent practices around a platform's existing sites, so the next acquisition is chosen from a map of who is near retirement.

For lenders and advisors

How fast a market is aging

Compare a market's physician age curve with the nation's: a market that sits above the curve has more practices that change hands in the next decade.

What each row holds

One row per physician. The independent practice rating comes from public records, and High means we found no hospital tie. Whether a physician plans to retire is a question for the call. Ages are estimates (they run young for international graduates), and the list only covers physicians enrolled in Medicare.
